Unemployed

Tomorrow, I will be unemployed.

For the first time in 16 years.

I’m using this post as a marker – so that when I look back in the future, I will remember this exact date.

Rarely do we make plans and the plans actually unfold in exact detail.  More often, LIFE intervenes and nudges us towards a path that we should (but we are uncomfortable to) take.

In the past month, personal circumstances have forced me to choose between things I value: Family, Health, and Career.  It became apparent that I can only focus on two of the three at this point in TIME.

Speaking of TIME: TIME is the most valuable currency in this world.  Nobody has too much of it.  It is all-powerful – able to heal wounds and solve problems on its own.  But because of its power, it cannot be accumulated – which means it is always in short supply.  And anything on short supply must be used wisely.

Which brings me to my decision to prioritize family and health at this point in time.  I am letting go of a very promising career, a role that I really love, a financially-rewarding job in a fast-growing company – so that I can spend more TIME for Health and Family.

It’s a strange combination of feelings – excitement of what’s to come, curiosity of what is possible, fear of the instability, doubt that I am crazy, and faith that things will work out.

But here I am, about to be unemployed starting tomorrow.

I don’t know what will happen next.  But what I do know is that I chose to honor the things I value the most: Family & Health.  And for as long as I’m clear on my values, then things will be alright.

Hello there instability.  Hello fear of the unknown.  I’m here to slay you.  Bring it!
